Africa development hurt by slow computer virus issues
Found this very interesting article about how different IT development in Africa is compared to the most western countries. While we assume that most internet and computer users are aware of computer virus issues and how they can deal with them in Africa the problem is larger.
According to Tariq Khokhar, the chief development officer of Aptivate, a NGO that focuses on IT in Africa, around 80 per cent of computers in Africa likely have a virus on them. That causes problems even in government offices and other agencies. The economics of anti-virus software comes into play since many organizations can not afford the fees. So slow running computer issues become even more important when you are trying to develop and deliver aid to those in need.
The problem does not stop when people buy new machines in these regions. Most vendors will load up the machines with pirated software that will harm the computers speed and performance.
