Homing pigeon bests slow computer connections in Africa
Wow how bad is the internet in some parts of Africa. Well its so slow in South Africa that one company tried the following experiment. They wanted to send a 4GB file 50 miles away to another office location.
They likely attached the data to Winston the pigeon and sent him on his way. At the same time of their tech pressed a button to send the data over the internet. The pigeon won. By alot. Now you know why your computer is slow when its connected online in some parts of Africa.
The pigeon arrived in just over 2 hours. By the time the pigeon arrived only 4 per cent of the data had transferred over the internet. Ouch. South Africa’s largest telecom company went on the defensive saying they are not the problem of the slow connection and download speed. The customer apparently had not taken some recommended measures to speed up their service. Well when only 4 per cent of a 4GB file moves in two hours I doubt its only user error.
